Can we talk about how fast Christmas sneaks up on us every single year?! One minute we’re enjoying fall leaves and pumpkin everything, and the next we’re scrambling to get Christmas presents bought, decorations up, and Christmas cards ordered. Somehow December always gets here before we’re ready!
If there’s one thing I want to encourage you to do this year, it’s to schedule your family Christmas photos early!
November is the perfect time to take your Christmas card photos, and there are a few reasons why I think getting them done early makes the holiday season so much easier.
Give Yourself Enough Time for Christmas Cards
We’ve all been there. You find the perfect family photo, pick out the cutest Christmas card design, and then realize you needed to have everything ordered two weeks ago. Oops!
Taking your family photos in early November gives you plenty of time to choose your favorites, design your Christmas cards, get them printed, address envelopes, and actually get them in the mail before Christmas.
Most families want their cards arriving in December, and giving yourself that extra time makes a HUGE difference. You don’t want your beautiful Christmas cards showing up after Santa has already made his visit!
Get Those Family Photos Checked Off Your List
Let’s be honest, the holiday season is busy enough. Between Thanksgiving, Christmas shopping, school activities, family gatherings, and all the other things that come with this time of year, your calendar fills up quickly.
Make Memories While Everyone Is Together
Christmas cards are more than just something we send to friends and family. They’re a little reminder of what life looked like that year.
Maybe your kids are a little taller, maybe you’ve welcomed a new baby, or maybe your family just looks a little different than it did last Christmas.
Those little changes are worth documenting.
I love knowing that the photos I take will end up on refrigerators, tucked into memory boxes, and shared with family members who might not get to see you every day. That’s one of my favorite things about being a family photographer!
And don’t worry about having perfectly behaved kids or everyone smiling at the camera the entire time. Some of my favorite photos come from the in-between moments, the giggles, the silly faces, and the little personalities that make your family YOUR family.
Mini Sessions are the absolute best for kiddos
Quick 20-30 minute sessions are just the right amount of time to get some cute updated photos! Kids stay pretty happy (and so do husbands) and you get some fun new seasonal pictures to send out to those you love!
My biggest tip? Don’t wait until the end of November to start thinking about Christmas cards. Give yourself a little breathing room and get those photos taken early in the month!
Your future December self will thank you. Promise!
I can’t wait to see all the sweet families I get to photograph this holiday season. ❤️

A Little Bit About Lindsey 🤍
Hi, I’m Lindsey! I’m the photographer behind Lindsey Larsen Photography, based in Cedar City, Utah. I’m a mom to two sweet boys, a dog mom to our husky Athena, and someone who will probably always have a camera nearby.
I started photography because I fell in love with capturing the little moments that we don’t realize we’ll miss until they’re gone. Whether I’m photographing a wedding, an engagement session, or a family chasing their kiddos around during golden hour, I want you to walk away with photos that feel like YOU.
I love natural smiles, genuine connections, a little bit of chaos, and all the in-between moments. Life moves way too quickly, and I think it’s pretty special that I get to help families hold onto a little piece of it.
If you’re looking for a Cedar City or Southern Utah photographer for your family photos, Christmas cards, couples session, or wedding, I’d love to meet you!
Let’s make some memories together! 🤍
